David Bruderly rebuttal
November 5, 2006Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your endorsement of Cliff Stearns. Voters will not find my solutions for change in Congress to be "strident." My "real solutions" include support for pending legislation and a commitment to work with all members to solve our nation's most pressing problems.... (more online... | PDF file

Alternative Fuel for a Democrat
October 24, 2006Twice David Bruderly has run for Congress against U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns. Both times, in 2002 and '04, he was thrashed by the Ocala Republican by almost identical 2-to-1 margins. So what's a Democrat to do when the opposition is a nine-term millionaire congressman who's climbing the House ladder of seniority? If you're David Bruderly, you launch campaign No. 3.... What a rip-off
October 24, 2006Voters have no real choices in national races. The war in Iraq. The minimum wage. Torture. Wiretapping. There are plenty of good reasons to vote next month - in fact, this year's congressional elections will be the most important in a decade. But if you live in Alachua County, don't bother sending a message to Washington. On Capitol Hill, no one really cares what you think..... (more online...

Bruderly for change
October 19, 2006The Sun usually endorses Stearns for re-election, even though we have severe reservations about his voting record in regard to the environment, tax breaks for the wealthy and social issues. We have done so because Stearns has a good record of constituent services and has been moderately successful in obtaining federal funds for the district. But that's not good enough any more. We believe voters in the 6th District should elect Democrat Dave Bruderly..... (more online... | PDF File)

Familiar face in the race
October 19, 2006Twice now, David Bruderly has taken a swing at longtime U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns. He's come up empty both times - losing by about 30 percentage points in both 2002 and 2004. Undeterred, the Gainesville Democrat is taking his third crack at Stearns this fall, trying to unseat the nine-term Ocala Republican.... (more online... | PDF File)

District 6 odds tough for Dem
October 4, 2006If the ballot in the 6th Congressional District looks familiar this year, it's because the same two candidates ran for the House seat last election. And the election before that. Sunday January 15, 2006Take some vegetable oil, add lye and methanol, shake it up and let it settle. Make the mixture wrong and you'll produce soap. Sunday January 15, 2006Nursing homes have an odd way of resting near cemeteries and shopping malls. Cemeteries, I get. But shopping malls are puzzling until you're visiting your grandmother and remember at the last minute the flowers you're supposed to bring. Suppressing the temptation to shop the cemetery for flowers, a mad dash to the mall usually results in a bizarre bouquet of carnations and daisies and roses that say "Get Well," "Happy Birthday and "It's A Girl" all rolled into one...
